designers could not have created a more quintessential 1950s-style swamp café
than this landmark restaurant near the Ochopee Post Office. Drink in the
wood-plank floors, open rafters -- recently cleaned of cobwebs but still hung
with stuffed owls -- postcards from around the globe, and kitschy gator art.
Joanie, the chief cook and bottle washer, set up shop here in 1987. The fresh
blue crabs used in the sandwiches and soups are caught by staff members, who
haul in close to 400 pounds of the critters in a single weekend. Chill out with
a beer, glass of wine, or chilly strawberry shake on the screened deck. It's
