LAUNCHES FIRST-EVER COMPREHENSIVE VOTER GUIDE TO THE PROPOSED
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
(September 28, 2004) - With more fraud being uncovered
surrounding several proposed constitutional amendments, today
VoteSmartFlorida.org is launching a nonpartisan, internet voter
guide to provide Floridians with a comprehensive informational
resource for Florida's eight proposed constitutional
amendments. This internet guide -
www.VoteSmartFlorida.org/voterguide.asp
- is the first of its kind.
"Florida has one of the easiest
constitutions in the United States to amend and voters have the
right to know all of the information prior to going to vote," said
Mark Wilson, spokesperson for VoteSmartFlorida.org. "Because some
amendments have qualified for the ballot using fraudulent activity,
it is more important than ever for voters to be empowered with the
information they need to cast an informed vote."
In absence of a state-published voter
guide to the amendments, VoteSmartFlorida.org has compiled all of
the information surrounding proposed amendments into an easy-to-use
voter resource containing information on each proposed amendment,
including the ballot language, financial impact statements,
opponents, proponents, campaign finance activity and more.
In addition,
VoteSmartFlorida.org is continuing to uncover fraudulent activity by
the sponsors of some of the eight constitutional amendments. This
activity includes signatures of dead people and fake signatures on
petitions that were used to qualify amendments. VoteSmartFlorida.org
is continuing to investigate the process and disclose this illegal
activity.
VoteSmartFlorida.org is a 501(c)(4) organization
composed of diverse Floridians, community groups, trade associations
and advocates which recognizes that Florida's constitutional
amendment process is for sale, broken and needs to be fixed.
VoteSmartFlorida.org is firmly committed to enduring and maintaining
the integrity of our Florida Constitution and the constitutional
amendment process.
